This past weekend was awesome. On Friday night, some of us went to the Houston Grand Opera to see La Boheme. When we got there, instead of paying for student tickets, we were generously given FREE tickets by the box office. After a quick (read: inhaled) dinner from Chipotle, we found our seats waaaay up in the balcony and settled in for my favorite opera. The singers all sounded fantastic to complement the excellent orchestra.
At intermission, I ran into a friend who graduated from Rice a couple of years ago! She is a wonderful soprano who lives in Chicago with her husband and is in town for a few weeks on tour! It's crazy how small the music world is. It was fun to catch up, even if it was just for 10 minutes or so!
The next day was our orchestra concert. Dvorak Carnival Overture, "Romeo Alone" from Berlioz Romeo and Juliet, and Brahms Symphony no. 3. After our dress rehearsal I enjoyed some tea at Bacchus with a dear friend. I'll definitely be going there more often! The concert went well and, as always, it was a lot of fun.
Happy voting day!
